Christian Nationalism Is On It's Way

Although it's always been quietly gathering steam for the past 7 decades, it has really intensified since the 80's.  Ronald Reagan with his holier than thou persona, along with all the other white christian nationalists who paraded around their religiosity, like 2 time wife cheater Gingrich, and Pat Robertson, and all the TV Evangelists.

These people feel the need to have others follow their idea of morality, and adhere to what they read or are told to follow.  The hypocrisy of it all is quite sickening, and is in large part why I left religion altogether.  I don't need a group of people telling me how to behave or that I have to practice religion or pray or go to church.  Talk to people who lived in Afghanistan during the first reign of the Taliban, and you'll know the direction this country is heading.

Many will laugh, or pooh-pooh the notion of this country becoming a religious reich of epic proportion.  For centuries, rich white men have figured out how to keep the masses under control, and for much of that, religion has been the key.  Knowing that the number of believers keeps dropping year after year, and that non-white population in the US is on the rise, they know the clock is ticking.  They need to bring to the forefront their christian nationalism sooner rather than later, or face severe backlash from the middle and lower class.

Just like in Afghanistan, the first people to be admonished and attacked were the women.  Especially single women, and poor women.  The same is happening in the US.  The ending of Roe v. Wade is just one example, with more to follow.  Child education was the next to be attacked.  The Taliban figured if you only teach from the Quran, that will only ever be all you know.  Similarly in the US, we are seeing signs of the same.  We are seeing book banning, and changes in curriculum to stop teaching the realities of US imperialism.  Attacks on science and social studies as well.  If you eliminate the sorts of studies that enrich young peoples lives, and frees their minds, it is far easier to indoctrinate them with religious ideology.

Be prepared.  The next few years will determine what you do on a Sunday.  Will it but what you enjoy now, or will you be forced to worship and pray all day?  I think we're closer to the latter than you think.
